Police Chief Armandez was in trouble. It is not good to have to shoot one of your lieutenants for attempting to kidnap the visiting Pope in a furniture van. He felt that worse was to come. And he was right. His scheme for a substitute pontiff backfired. One Pope flew off in a 707, the other drove away unobtrusively in a Cadillac. Simultaneously, Armandez realized that he didn't know which Pope was the real one, and got the news that the 707 had been hi-jacked and the Cadillac had vanished -- with contents.
To be the Police Chief of a Banana Republic and have scruples was difficult enough without losing one's country's first World Figure. We follow Henry Calvin's hero through this fast moving, zany thriller as he desperately searches for the two Popes, and we, the kidnappers, and Armandez are never sure until the final pages which one is for real.
